Lab Manager, 2017 -

M.S. (genetics) 1999 University of Kentucky
B.S. (biotechnology) 1993 University of Kentucky

I have been a lab manager at MSU since 1997. In addition to the Huang Lab, I am also lab manager for two other faculty members. I received my B.S. and M.S. from the University of Kentucky. In addition to conducting research, I am responsible for overseeing the routine functioning of the laboratory as well as training students. When I’m not at work, I’m busy trying to keep up with my five-year old twin girls.

Kangxu Wang (王康旭)

Postdoctoral Scholar, 2022 -

Ph.D. (entomology) 2019 Nanjing Agricultural University
B.S. (plant protection) 2013 Nanjing Agricultural University

I am an entomologist, focusing on a variety of insect pests from the fruit flies to the red flour beetles. My current research project is conducting molecular biology, fly genetics, and biometrics to get some clues on fundamental aspects of the central dogma.

Mohammed Bedhane

Postdoctoral Scholar, 2022 -

Ph.D. (animal genomics) 2021 University of New England, Australia
Postgrad diploma (agriculture) 2016 Lincoln University, New Zealand
M.S. (animal genetics) 2013 AgroParisTech, France
M.S. (animal science) 2012 Swedish university of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden
B.S. (animal science) 2005 Hawassa University, Ethiopia

Broadly, I am interested in factors that control genetic variation and how these can be utilised in quantitative genetics. Particularly, I am interested in genome wide association study, genomic prediction and methods of estimating genetic parameters for performance and disease traits in various species.

Fei Zhang (张飞)

Gratuate Student, 2019 -

Research Assistant 2017-2019 South University of Science and Technology, China
Bioinformatics Scientist 2016-2017 Novogene Co. Ltd, China
M.S. (biochemistry) 2015 Dalian Medical University, China

I am interested in biological questions such as how is a specific phenotype determined by genetic and epigenetic information. I am trying to employ NGS data analysis to find some clues.

Leland Ackerson

Graduate Student, 2021 -

M.S. (animal science) 2023 Michigan State University
B.S. (animal science) 2021 Michigan State University

I am an Animal Scientist that is passionate about the concept of “One Health”. I hope to contribute to the optimization of livestock health through the implementation of bioinformatics and a comprehensive understanding of genetics. I am interested in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Genes and the implications they have on the collective health of both people and animals.

Samuel Snowden

Undergraduate Student, 2022 -

B.S. (genomics and molecular genetics) expected 2026 Michigan State University

I am interested in genomics, bioinformatics, and computational approaches to large-scale datasets.
